Failed Research Speedup/missing speed up button

I sped up my research on gaurd toughness boost level 10 with 18 hours left. My jewels were taken and I still have 18 hours left. Now there isn't an option to speedup the research with jewels. I have closed and reopened the app several times. I have let 1.5 hours elapse and the jewels are still missing and still don't have the option to speed the research up.
