Recently we've noticed an increase in players working to organize ties on event leaderboards so they all receive first place rewards.

This behavior goes against our original leaderboard design and balance, which poses the following problems.
    • As rewards can reach more players than intended, we need to be less generous with leaderboard rewards.
    • Players may "encourage" others in the event to stop at a certain point to tie, resulting in event engagement stopping.
    • Players who decide to go after first place rewards may find themselves threatened or discouraged from doing so
To account for the above, we will soon change how event leaderboards work by preventing ties. Ties will be broken by giving the highest rank to the player who achieved the score first.

    Example:
Player A gets 1000 pts, then shortly after Player B gets 1000 pts.
Player A will be 1st, and Player B will be 2nd.
If Player B then gets another 10 pts, then Player B will be 1st, and Player A will be 2nd.

While there is not a fixed date for this change, we are aiming to release it in the next few weeks. We will be providing another update when we have a definitive timeline for this change.

This is absolutely the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I don't have a proposed solution, but this is certainly not how it should be done. What if more than three people tie? Then the fourth individual with the same score receives no rewards despite having the same exact score? How about making gaming the leaderboard against the rules and taking action against the few instead of punishing everyone? Also you're not implementing this fix for a while so you decide to post publicly on the forums letting everyone know they can work together to tie and nothing will be done about it for a couple of weeks?

Then the 4th person should’ve been faster

Again, the proposed solution is trash. Imagine Pole Vaulters in the olympics tieing but since one guy went first he got gold and the other silver. I haven't even placed in the top three in an event. My opinion is completely ubiased.

And it was never intended that 60+ people take first place in an event...

I find it unfair if a tie happens for real and not due to organised exploitation. Imagine someone from a different timezone racing against time to beat the top player and ties with them right on the dot when the event ends. The top player gets the first place reward and the second player gets second despite having the same score. This is one of the cons regarding your solution. If it is possible, I would highly recommend creating a code of conduct in which each player must abide to just like contemporary society with laws. If not complied with, the player’s account is suspended, which is fair given that the player is notified of the rules beforehand. If there is one already, it is not being made apparent to the players and this needs to be addressed promptly. I have seen many cases regarding suspending players accounts such as the use of third party apps and people complaining that they did not know it was a problem. Exploitation has been a problem in any game of any time and so, the solution has always been to make it a rule that exploitation is an offence. This suggestion is merely my opinion and I don’t mean to be rude or condescending in any shape or form. I just want the best for the game and the best for the playerbase.

Of course the easier solution would to make the players in the tie share the reward that would put a stop to it rather than making it unfair based on time zone

I feel that this is not a solution and yet another way for ATA to make money and push the people that don’t spend in the dark. Big spenders and top players are now going to be able to win every event and the people that work hard to earn their speed ups and dragon shards through events and not their wallet are going to be alienated.

My suggestion to to simply raise leaderboard requirements if it is that big of a deal. The leaderboard will be harder to get onto, but at least then players can maintain the community feeling you get when a successful tie is organized.

This came up because you have an entire realm that will zero somebody if they break the tie. It’s a flaw in the game that wasn’t addressed because it wasn’t really a problem, it became a problem when you had a realm exploit it and turn it into a way to bully others.

This is just a temporary fix they have to re work some but I’m figuring eventually it will be split up through the a tie but they have to get the tie or matching mentality erased first

Realistically with the change to prevent ties it should be much less common for multiple people to have the exact same score at the upper thresholds. Currently, there are many players who do because it allows them to tie, but if ties don't exist players will try their best to gain a lead over opponents. In the case of ties (which should be a rarer event), it will be broken by the time a player reaches that score. Think of it as the first to reach a goal in a race in case of ties.

With the suggestion of enforcing a code of conduct for events and ties, this really wouldn't make sense as it would be quite difficult to determine if ties were intentional or occurred organically.

With the suggestion of sharing rewards over the top tiers, this actually poses another problem in that it makes the top tiers potentially less valuable, in the case of a tie for first place, second place could actually be more valuable which is an odd behavior.

What do you think of making a few more places who get rewards? Like if the bracket has enough players in that bracket, make it top 10 or 20. I'm not in the 23+ bracket, but in realm 10, it would be nice to see them get more places now that there are more people in that bracket. And 25 needs a bracket of its own now. They have a great advantage over the other players with the extra march they can have.
It may make the change more bearable to people who are affected, especially if there are more places to fight over. Having more places to fight over may make things competitive, but at least if they do duke it out, more people can win. Maybe not great rewards, but still something vs nothing.

What about increasing the reward for first place so that it’s actually worth fighting for

Just like with the DQ, TH 25's definitely need their own bracket for hourly. I mean...resource gathering anyone? It's literally impossible to win as a TH 23 or 24.

I feel like the majority of players are hurt by this and no one actually benefits from these changes. Players that could normally not hit the point other players were tying will still be unable to claim good rewards. Players that were tying will now be racing to hit an exceedingly higher number in events. If you are telling players they cannot tie and get good rewards as a realm then you should implement better rewards for finishing the quest so players aren’t just losing benefits but overall gaining more accessible rewards. Dragon shards shouldn’t just be for top 3 players because that will lead to more of a power gap than already exists

I agree. Some of the big players attacking my nodes at last moment so that I can't get the eggs which they're taking away. It's not the event issue it's gameplay problem. There's no such might gap which can't attack certain level player. Like we have in pimd and KAW.

Unfortunately removing the possibility of ties makes it extremely difficult for players like myself who don’t have extra money to spend in the game to get rewards. Speed ups and gems are the best way to get these rewards. Removing ties is essentially removing the 1,2,3 etc place rewards from the equation. And without the rewards it will be a much longer process to move up in the game. I’m afraid you will lose many players because of this

Congratulations ATA you've done it. You've just turned me into a f2p. I'm not spending $$$ to compete in hourlies for rewards that are no longer worth the effort. If you start offering Dragon shards in the 4-10 rewards and make the rewards better overall then maybe I'll think about spending again. You should also think about adding an 11-20 reward range as well for hourly quests.
You also need to change the brackets for gathering. How are people under TH25 supposed to compete with players who can gather 4 lvl9 nodes at the same time???
